Helping Shape the Future of Women’s Pelvic Health
Interested in women’s health research? Melbourne researchers are inviting women to learn more about two clinical studies into common pelvic health concerns.
The studies are exploring whether vaginal laser therapy may have a role in managing vaginal laxity following childbirth and stress urinary incontinence.
Vaginal Laxity Following Childbirth
Vaginal laxity is a feeling of looseness or a change in vaginal tone that can be experienced following childbirth. For some women, it may affect sexual function and quality of life.
Stress Urinary Incontinence
Stress urinary incontinence is bladder leakage that can happen during coughing, sneezing, jumping or exercise. It can affect confidence, everyday activities and participation in physical activity.
Why Women’s Health Research Matters
Many women experience these concerns. However, researchers need more high-quality evidence to understand the potential benefits of vaginal laser therapy for these conditions.
Both studies use a randomised controlled design to assess treatment effects. By taking part, eligible participants can therefore contribute to evidence that may help inform future women’s healthcare.

Research Locations in Melbourne
The vaginal laxity study takes place at Cabrini Hospital. For the stress urinary incontinence study, participants first attend an assessment at Monash Health, Moorabbin. Treatments then take place at Cabrini.

The Monash Health Human Research Ethics Committee and the Cabrini Research Governance Office have reviewed and approved this research.
