The Fotona SkyPulse® lasers are tailored for forward-thinking Endodontic practitioners seeking to elevate their practice with the use of cutting edge technology.
SkyPulse® has the capability to generate exceptionally low-energy and short duration laser pulses, optimised to generate a clinically effective photoacoustic effect for endodontic treatments using Fotona’s SWEEPS® (Shock Wave Enhanced Emission Photoacoustic Streaming) technology.
SWEEPS® is a revolutionary method for cleaning and disinfecting the root canal system, utilizing the power of the Er:YAG laser to create powerful, deeply penetrating shockwaves within the irrigation solutions used in the root canal. With SWEEPS®, practitioners can offer patients more effective root canal treatments.
SWEEPS® uses patented technology to allow the irrigant to reach into lateral canals and dentinal tubules to deeply disinfect the root canal system by removing pulp tissue, debris, smear layer, and biofilm containing microorganisms.
This innovative technique advances laser assisted irrigation (LAI). It consists of two optimally timed laser pulses which create significantly higher cavitation and turbulence in the irrigating agent throughout the root canal system compared to other LAI techniques. By adding a second laser pulse timed to form when the initial bubble from the first laser pulse is in the final phase of its collapse, the growth of the subsequent bubble exerts pressure on the collapsing initial bubble, accelerating its collapse and the collapse of secondary bubbles. This resulting cavitation and the emission of primary and secondary shock waves is especially effective in spatially confined reservoirs such as a root canal system.
Due to its ability to clean the complex root canal system, the final master apical file size required for canal shaping can be reduced, compared to that required when using traditional irrigation techniques, allowing for more conservative preparations. Overall treatment time is shortened and post-operative pain is reduced, which is highly appreciated by patients. Furthermore, healing is improved and treatment results become more predictable.
