Laser Innovation and Learning at Fotona APAC 2025 in Melbourne

The 11th Fotona Asia Pacific Meeting (APAC 2025) in Melbourne has officially concluded. It was an inspiring few days for the regional laser medicine community, filled with learning, collaboration, and a shared passion for advancing laser medicine in Australia. As proud co-hosts, the IMT team welcomed clinicians, laser specialists, and partners from across the region to explore the latest innovations and clinical applications.

The conference opened with an address from Fotona CEO Jeff Duchemin and included a heartfelt tribute to Paul Baltas, the late CEO of IMT and a true pioneer of Australian laser medicine. His vision and dedication continue to influence the industry

IMT leadership, including CEO Sam Vlachos and Director Sylvia Baltas, participated throughout the program and welcomed the announcement of the upcoming LA&HA Training Centre in Melbourne, which will provide hands-on courses across aesthetic laser training, laser dentistry education, and women’s health applications, starting in early 2026.

Multidisciplinary Learning and Clinical Insights

The APAC program offered extensive education across dentistry, gynaecology, and aesthetics.

The dental program brought together an exceptional group of clinicians. Dr David Barnard and Dr Tim Silbert introduced the latest in SWEEPS® endodontics and LightWalker® applications, while Dr Nicole Pingsuan Yeh, Dr Ung Viet Cuong, Dr Angie Papas, Dr Phil Hand, Dr Fernando Duarte and Dr Maki Tanaka shared updates in restorative dentistry and laser-assisted surgery.

Oral biofilm management and TwinLight® perio therapy were outlined by Dr Wendy Gill, Dr Jason Pang and Dr Maki Tanaka, providing clear clinical takeaways for daily practice.

Broader developments in modern dental care were explored by Dr Jason Pang, Dr Louis Chan, Dr Linhlan Nguyen and Dr Donny Mandrawa, who highlighted new directions supported by Fotona laser systems.

Hands-on sessions with SkyPulse® and other Fotona devices gave attendees practical experience and strengthened clinical confidence.

In gynaecology and women’s health, the program featured an outstanding panel of local and international specialists. Dr Christian Phillips, Dr Anna Rosamilia, Dr Mirjana Janjić, Dr Hanan Maghazaji, Dr Chi-Feng Su and Dr Zdenko Vižintin discussed pelvic floor dysfunction and the role of Fotona technology in improving outcomes.

Sexual wellness across different life stages was explored by Stephanie Gail Mesina-Veneracion, Dr Neža Koron and Dr Zdenko Vižintin, offering valuable perspectives supported by extensive clinical experience.

Broader applications of laser medicine were highlighted in the Gynaecology and Beyond session, where Dr Amanda Sabel, Dr Chi-Feng Su, Dr Keisuke Saito and Dr Neža Koron examined emerging trends and future directions in women’s health.

In aesthetics, the program featured world-renowned experts in laser medicine. Dr Nicolas Rygaloff, Dr Lucas Chia, Dr Tanja Phillips, Dr Shobhan Manoharan, Dr Adele Bartram Goodall, Dr Reinhard Gansel, and Dr Irena Hreljac shared insights on pigmentation, melasma, scar revision, and facial rejuvenation using Dynamis® Max and StarWalker® systems.

The Round Table on Innovations for Asian Skin included Dr Lucas Chia, Dr Sayaka Nagao, Dr Chau Ngoc To Trinh, and Dr Isabella Zhao, exploring key considerations for treating diverse skin types.

Broader approaches to laser treatments for the face, body, and hair were discussed by Dr George Calfas, Dr David Sudarto, Dr Tanja Phillips, Dr Alice Rudd, Dr Fred Fotouhi, and Dr Irena Hreljac, highlighting holistic strategies in modern aesthetic practice.

Gala Dinner and Cocktail Party

The Gala Dinner on Saturday night was a standout moment of the Fotona APAC weekend. Guests enjoyed a beautiful performance by a talented girls’ choir before a live band filled the room and brought everyone to the dance floor.

The weekend wrapped up on Sunday night with a warm and relaxed cocktail party at Left Bank Melbourne Restaurant & Cocktail Bar, giving attendees the perfect setting to unwind and connect after two full days of learning and discussion.

The celebrations throughout the event reflected the true spirit of the Fotona community, bringing together innovation, collaboration and a shared commitment to advancing patient care.
