Implantology

Dental implant surgery replaces tooth roots with metal screw-like posts and replaces damaged or missing teeth with artificial teeth that look and function much like real ones. Implantology is an alternative to ill-filling dentures or bridgework. Advancements in implant dentistry, specifically laser technology, enhance efficiency, safety, and patient comfort.

In implantology, lasers fall into two categories: soft tissue and hard tissue lasers. They use various wavelengths, each with unique absorption properties. Their benefits include improved haemostasis, reduced swelling, minimised tissue damage, and a potential decreased chance of infection thanks to the photo sterilisation effect. Furthermore, laser technology removes the vibrations and noise from traditional drills, making patients more comfortable with less post-operative pain.

Peri-implantitis is a destructive condition for dental implants, involving inflammation and tissue infection that may lead to implant failure. Timely diagnosis and effective treatment are vital to prevent complications. Laser therapy for peri-implantitis offers an array of benefits over traditional treatment methods, including minimal invasiveness, absence of thermal damage to surrounding bone, reduced inflammation for faster healing, and improved long-term implant success.

OUTPERFORM, OUTSHINE, OUTLAST

Being equipped with dual-wavelength, Er:YAG and Nd:YAG, Fotona’s state-of-the-art dental lasers stand apart when it comes to implantology. Having the capability to tackle both soft and hard tissue, implantology applications become versatile using laser technology.

Tooth Extraction
Tooth Extraction is less traumatic allowing for extremely fine ablation and more precise control over incisions enabling simultaneous coagulation, an effect that occurs during laser-tissue interaction.

Socket Preparation
Socket Preparation lasers effectively remove granulation tissue and disinfect the surgical area after extraction without thermal side-effects on the bone and with greater comfort to the patient since no force is applied. It may also be beneficial to prepare the implant bed with a laser to achieve longer stability.

Wound Healing
Wound Healing is improved as there is less bone loss, leading to faster and more predictable implantation. Post-operative healing periods are much shorter with the laser’s simultaneous disinfection effects, healing is faster with fewer post-operative complications.

ComfortLase™
ComfortLase™ can improve clinical results by following up with photobiomodulation therapy, which helps to accelerate recovery time, relieve pain, and reduce inflammation.

TwinLight®
TwinLight® peri-implantitis can be treated by laser where granulomatous tissue from the inflamed surface is removed, the bone is disinfected, while the implant is safely and effectively decontaminated in an environment where bleeding is well controlled.

FAQ’S

Lasers do not completely replace conventional practice but are indeed a major aid in doing what is needed in implantology, always enabling increased comfort, both for the patient and the operator.

  • Degranulation of tissue with laser is precise, disinfects the surgical area and is safe to the bone
  • Ablating of the bone using laser can be achieved without thermal side effects and can provide greater stability
  • Lasers provide an effective tool to treat peri-implantitis, efficiently cleaning granulation tissue on the bone and implant surface, decontaminating the area of bacteria arresting disease progression
  • More comfortable for the patient and operator – less force applied
  • Patient satisfaction and increased referrals from practitioners and patients

Yes, through Photobiomodulation (PBM), a clinically proven, non-invasive solution used for a wide variety of wound healing and pain management applications. PBM utilizes low-level, visible-red to near-infrared light energy, which stimulates cells to naturally heal, relieve pain and reduce inflammation. Additionally, the process results in accelerated tissue regeneration, stimulation of cell metabolism, increased lymphatic flow and stimulation of micro-circulation.
